I don't get why people sometimes talk as if it's just large corporations that contributed to emissions.

It all makes a difference. There's no doubt that individual consumption contributes a lot to global emissions. Like large houses that use a lot of material, cement etc and cost a lot to heat and cool.

And those large corporations exist to serve customers. It's not like we could simply get rid of them.

But we obviously need to also look at the ways that we can work together to save emissions where possible.

It's frustrating to bother at all then hear about someone blowing 3x your annual carbon on a whim. Oh well.

Yes, but the plane fits hundreds of passengers. Isn't that much obvious?

Not to disagree that flying is very CO2 intensive, but it's not like the airline is burning fuel for fun. The passengers paid them to do it

Carbon offsets for that wasted fuel would run $500. Pay that and I will be happy.

Not to mention GPU performance, which has also steadily improved.

The A20 Pro has about the same GPU performance as an M1 Pro, according to the Metal GPU benchmark. Very impressive.

Would be great if either party cared about issues which affect ordinary Americans. But they're extraordinarily alienated from the population.

Current US leadership has very much failed ordinary people in the US and allied states.

Incompetence or malice? Both is also possible...

Would be great if americans actually cared about those issues instead of complaining online all the time.

"both sides" is the reason we're in this shit show. It's like comparing a wart to stage 4 skin cancer.

It's also part of the US national policy to prefer fossil fuels and oil. The US has become the world's largest petrostate.

Advertising is propaganda. And it uses emotions to elicit people to respond in certain ways.

The ad industry likes to say that they're in the business of informing people so they can make better decisions. Whereas they make sure you're uninformed so you can make worse decisions.

I belive you are describing the the article quite aptly.

There have been studied and experiments with UBI which contradict what you say.

The phone I bought from China eats Apple hardware for breakfast. It's got IP69 protection, only 7mm thick, a massive battery that charges incredibly quickly (4800mah). It's basically like an iPhone air but it only cost me about $500 (Motorola X70 Air)

When Apple embraces Silicon Carbide batteries I'm sure they're going to make amazing stuff.

It's not like they haven't impressed on the hardware side. If you look at something like the M4 iPad Pro which was released 2 years ago, there is no competition even close. Nor with their laptops.

Except it's got a mid-tier processor, and likely pretty under-performant cameras like most Motorola stuff? Compromises here.

Chinese handsets have had better cameras since the late 2010s. Xiaomi ate Samsung, Google and Apple for breakfast if you followed the DXOMark scores: https://www.dxomark.com/xiaomi-mi-9-camera-review/

People trust DXOMark as a authority in comparing smartphone cameras?

Also, even by your own source, Xiaomi is bested by the iPhone and Google Pixel. Motorolas flagship phones place much lower, and I don’t see any phone that costs $400 place anywhere near the top.

The processor is great and so is the camera.

Fascism is literally the union of corporations and the state. So why would a CEO stand up against it?

Only the people will stand up against fascism, in a mass movement for freedom and democracy.

It's not about their race. Plenty of Asian people in Silicon Valley. Or even their personal beliefs. It's about the interests of shareholders, which they have to (by law!) satify. That means making profit.

Terrorism has to include violence, by my definition at least.

It's in the name. Terrifying people into compliance. Well that isn't the case here.

IMO there is overinvestment in compute and this will turn out to be a bubble.

But all of the money was anyway just lying around doing nothing. An enormous amount of capital has been building since the 80's thanks to corporate profits. A small sector of the population is so rich they don't know what to do with their capital.
