There are guidelines for street gazeteers here:

https://www.agi.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/BS7666Guid...

4.4.1 Street names The designated street name is usually to be found on the name plate on the street. However, these may not always be correct, and may differ between the ends of the street. Unofficial street names are ones that have not been adopted by the appropriate Highways Authority but may be in common usage, e.g. "The Great North Road". Street names, whether designated or unofficial, should be recorded in full. Abbreviations and punctuation should not be used unless they appear in the designated name, e.g. "Dr Newton's Way". Only single spaces should be used.

So I think all its saying gazetteer editors should not add punctuation if its “missing” from the designated place name.

Punctuation is fine if it already part of the place name.

I think the intention is to preserve the original place name.

So the council is wrong to blame the specification.

Interesting! However the company which runs the official gazetteer has advice, and the reasoning is nonsense:

>GeoPlace does not advise that councils include or remove punctuation in official naming or on the street name plate. Street naming and numbering is a council policy decision.

>However, the Data Entry Conventions documentation does state that GeoPlace would prefer not receive data (including street names) with punctuation.

>This is for two main reasons:

> machine readability – punctuation can be misinterpreted by computers

> usability – for example, if loaded into say an emergency service command and control system and a caller provides a street name, the search will be faster if the search is entered and returned without punctuation.

I thought I had seen a mention of a fix on the ileakage website and then it dissapeared. I almost thought I imagined the whole thing, but actually they have been making changes to the website only in the past hour.

> "To mitigate our work, Apple has just released iOS 17.1, iPadOS 17.1, and macOS Sonoma 14.1. Update your devices now!"

Which they have now reverted.

I think one of the authors of the paper are reading this thread because when I pointed out that there was no timeline on the site, they added a brief section to the FAQ. There is also some confusion here about whether a fix has been rolled out so I think they've also become confused.

Strange. I’ve updated to iOS 17.1 and under Settings -> Safari -> Advanced -> Feature Flags, the `Swap Processes on Cross-Site Navigation` is there and is enabled by default. I wonder if it’s different from `Swap Processes on Cross-Site Window Open` on macOS.

It is different. The cross-site navigation flag is a couple of years old. It was enabled by default for iOS in November 2018 for example https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/commit/e191fc8c412850cb9fd0...

also on by default on 17.0.3. i definitely did not change this.

Why is it acceptable to market an OS in 2021 where throwing out your current machine is “plan A”? Why is no one challenging microsoft to come up with an e-waste strategy?

I just tried this out with a Lambda function; I was wondering why you can't serve HTML with this (Yes, I know this product is aimed at enterprise ReST API stuff... one can try at least).

Well, it seems that authentication for the client is mandatory. This makes it unsuitable for rendering markup and serving it directly to clients.

Can anyone confirm this can only serve JSON content? I suspect were anonymous requests allowed, I'd see my markup rendered as a JSON string.

If you absolutely must build a website on this, you can serve the bootstrap HTML page out of S3 and use the JSON to populate it, single page app style.

I'm also going to the conference alone too. I think you made a great decision.

If it makes you feel any better I think you'll find it very different to regular social situations. I think this will be one environment where you will find people who are interested in the same things you are. Just talk about what interests you, I'm sure you will find some great people to talk with.

If you want to hang out at the conference just DM/tweet me @zenlambda or chat to me on the conference slack (my handle is 'frank').
