I think it's more helpful to blame the incentives and the individual actors. Nature isn't malicious or powerful enough to break science all on it's own. It didn't write the rules, it just plays by them.
ie Hate the game, not the player.

In this case, Nature
is
the game. Nature is far more powerful in science than any individual scientist, or any individual research institution.
