Just install cyanogenmod to get most features of Android 2.1 in the meantime. You'll have to wait a few more weeks or months to get Froyo on G1.

I have CyanogenMod5-test5 running on my G1 and could install the official Twitter and Facebook apps and like it.

Rogers (in Canada) installed an update on my phone that makes it non-rootable and forced to use 1.5. So Cyanogenmod is not an option.

What a PITA :( <insert standard .ca mobile rage here>. I passed on the Milestone from Telus because they did the same stupid shit.

So sad that Google's dropping the direct web sales post-N1.

Seems like rooting is still possible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654

That post is from August 2009, the forced firmware upgrade was in December 2009. If you go to page 51:

"It is not currently rootable"

Well, that's what you get for doing business with a company that's out to fuck you. You get fucked.

Android is a tool like any other -- it can be used for good, and it can be used for evil.

(Why not return your phone as defective? It worked for people when Sony remotely disabled their Linux installs on the PS3.)
