Notice: We're turning off the YC application form at 10pm Pacific

Since people are still applying, I thought we'd better announce when the application form will be turned off. If you want to apply, do it by tonight at 10 Pacific time. Please don't get your hopes up, though. The odds of a late application getting funded are much lower, and the odds of us funding one this late (the first dinner is on Tuesday) are very low indeed.

I'm curious - how many at this point (if any) have been funded which were submitted late?

I'm sure you'd agree that the quality of an idea has no bearing on the time that it was submitted.

So I wonder... Do you think you've missed any investments because the company timing didn't coalesce with a funding cycle?

The fact that we started allowing late applications proves we believe we might. I don't know of any specific examples though.

Because of it, would you even consider making more than two cycles a year (possibly enabling this by hiring more people, besides Harj)?

We're not currently considering it. We do stuff between cycles too. E.g. that's when we put on events like Startup School.

Then they wait a couple months and show up much earlier in the next cycle.

Not necessarily, if you are living off savings then you have a limited amount of time to either put something out that could become cash flow positive or secure funding.

It would be hard to quantify missed investment opportunities because of timing though because many companies that could have been won't happen because of the missed opportunity, you could only really quantify people who have stated they took alternate investment or joined another seed fund because of timing.

nice handle :)

I assume that's just his name and middle initials?

koenigdavid = king David

Will every application get a response, even if it's a rejection?

Yes.
