Roman political families regularly adopted heirs as well. Rome’s first emperor Augustus was the adopted heir of Julius Casaer.

And to further the argument, the fact that one decided to put his blood son as emperor (Marcus Aurelius) is often seen has one of the early cause of roman decline.
