1080p is in that sweet spot where it looks good enough without requiring buggy and inconsistent HiDPI scaling.


I’m using HiDPI on Linux/KDE and haven’t had any issues for a long time. Windows can’t be much worse. I think you need to reevaluate.

1080p might be fine for a phone. There’s nothing ‘sweet’ about blurry text[1] on a lowDPI laptop screen, in my opinion. Especially if you’re buying new. Paying real money for obolete tech makes no sense.

16:9 though... Absolute garbage. At least 16:10 is a must, but now when 3:2 exist everything else just looks so hopelessly inadequate.


1:sqrt(2) is pretty much the ideal ratio anyway, A4 in landscape :)


3:2 is MS Surface only, yes?


Matebook x pro (and other in the matebook series) as well, and I saw something new released (non ms/huawei) with it this week too. So hopefully it will be more common.
