Okay so to everyone but you 5B live under authoritarian regimes then -- "Not technically authoritarianism" is not something you should feel the need to say about countries you're arguing aren't authoritarian.

We just lock them up if they do gay stuff in public, require sexual education to teach that homosexuality is an "unacceptable lifestyle choice", define consensual sex between two homosexual teenagers as rape, and and have a standing legal theory that people just can't help it if they are thrown into a blind rage and attack a gay person for being gay that in 2023 is still a legal defense in 33 states. And that's just the gays, the political punching bag de jour is trans people and they get it even worse.
