Having a background in solid CS theory from High School, and having a degree in Art, I find it very hard to apply for engineering roles, and my mixed bag of experience often lands me in Support Engineer / application admin / integration roles, fuming tremendously when the people with SwEng / Developer titles fumble on with implementing some JavaScript change for a feature I need in Service Now for my application's customers.
It is incredibly reassuring that it is not simply my organization that is hamstrung by the pretense of complexity, when really someone just made it complicated to make it seem important.
